Safe and Sacred ProgramValues for A Lifetime
Beginning on August 1, 2013 a new child protection program for adults was initiated by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Safe and Sacred is taking the place of the VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children program.
Safe and Sacred training is available 24 hours per day/7 days per week in both English and Spanish. All new employees and volunteers should go to the Archdiocesan website www.archindy.org and click on Child Safety and Misconduct Reporting. Parents who have not participated in the VIRTUS program must go to this site and participate in this training before they begin their volunteer time in the classrooms. This includes helping with parties, chaperoning for field trips, etc.
There are questions during the training to assess the ability to apply the information, and there are 10 questions at the end of the program that be answer with at least 80% accuracy to receive a certificate. Safe and Sacred will provide quarterly online bulletins for continuing education on child protection.
The training program includes a background check form that is automatically sent to Barada and Associates after it has been completed. The background check for volunteers is $10. If using a check, please write your check out to St. Joseph Parish.
The training program also includes a Code of Conduct form, and people must electronically acknowledge that they understand and will comply with the code.
When the training has been completed, within a few minutes, people will receive a certificate of completion by e-mail from Safe and Sacred. The school will also receive a copy of each certificate immediately by e-mail.
Individuals trained with the VIRTUS program will continue to receive VIRTUS monthly bulletins through December 2013. In January 2014, individuals trained with the VIRTUS program will begin re-certifying by taking the Safe and Sacred program and receiving quarterly online Safe and Sacred bulletins.
